Biography: Born 1868. Began Higher Education 1884. Appointed Professor of Textile Industries and Head of the Department at Bradford Municipal Technical College in 1892. In 1894 he became an Honorary Associate of the Yorkshire College, Leeds. In 1914 took up the Chair in Textile Industries and the position of Head of the Department of Textile Industries at the University of Leeds. He remained in this post until 1933. Following retirement he worked at Chiao-Tung University in Shanghai, and then went to live in Australia. Barker's first textile mill in Australia was originally located in North Melbourne of Victoria, before it was moved to Portland of Victoria. He died in 1964.
