batik fabric
Date: 20th Century
Dimensions: 180 x 104.5 cm (70 7/8 x 41 1/8 in.)
Made in: Indonesia
Description: This piece of batik cloth was probably originally worn as a sarong. This is suggested by the design of a central panel, "kepala", which is of a different pattern to that decorating the main field. In this case the central panel consists of a triangular "tumpal" motif. The remaining decoration is a highly ornamented design imitative of a basket weave pattern.
