Description: This piece of fabric has been dyed to form a series of patterned panels for intended end use as a garment, possibly a tunic. The pattern of foliage and birds is carried out in shades of brown and blue on a cream ground. Birds, insects and floral patterns make up the design. These are accompanied by "lar" or wing motifs; also "sawat" patterns which consist of two wings with a large spreading tail. This is a stylised form of the traditional Indonesian motif of the garuda bird, and is generally recognised as a symbol of prosperity and success.
