Description: This child's garment is mainly constructed from plain woven linen fabric. It has a central front opening. The back and fronts are cut as single rectangular panels. The side panels are triangular giving a flared effect and are quilted at the top, creating gathers. The rounded neckline is decorated with a narrow band of trimming in a black and white geometric pattern.
The tunic has short sleeves made from single strips of fabric. The garment is unlined but has deep undyed linen(?) facings at the cuffs, centre front and bottom edge. A dark brown silk(?) satin ribbon has been sandwiched between the turned edge of the outer fabric and the facings. The neck edge has been bound with bias cut fabric with a blue and cream woven check.
The front originally fastened with 5 cream silk(?) cord ball buttons and loop fasteners, the top button is now missing.
The constructional stitching appears to be mainly worked in undyed linen(?) thread but there is also some use of fine dark brown silk.
