Description: Two samples of Agave ?americana stem and six pieces of stem pith. These stems are associated with the samples of Azorean agave fibre lace and the original Textile Museum label states that the fibre was made from the stems of the agave but no evidence has been found to support this - all other sources state that agave fibre is obtained from the leaves. Uses for agave stem include: musical instruments - drums and wind instruments and objects which need to be buoyant.
