Description: A small wooden brush with an animal fibre head (hog bristles or deer hair are typical materials) bound into a wooden handle. This is a Japanese stencil dyeing brush, probably of the surikome bake type. These brushes come in several sizes and would be used to apply dye directly onto the fabric through the stencil for small areas of pattern or for use in the creation of a multicoloured design through a single stencil.
